This weeks planned “Root Down Low” album release has been eclipsed by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria as they carried out a brutal intrusion into our regularly scheduled programming.

“I t S u r p r i s e s M e”
Remixed ft. Joseph DeNatale from the Infinite Tolerance CD
On the gulf coast of Texas the sun is shining but the dark clouds aren’t going away anytime soon. Our hearts go out to the hundreds of thousands afflicted by powerful Hurricane Harvey and the catastrophic aftermath of an unthinkable deluge.
Eighteen days later, nasty Hurricane Irma departed the sacrificial shores of Cuba, bent on creating a bookend to Harvey in the sunshine state. As I type this from south of Tallahassee near the Gulf, the eye wall of Irma is unleashing back breaking winds and an inundating ten foot tidal surge on Big Pine Key in the lower Florida Keys, an island community we called home for many years. My son Keynan was just 23 days old on September 25, 1998 when Hurricane George’s heavy handed gusts peeled away the rooftop of our stilt home on Big Pine. With Irma, the lower Keys and South Florida took a truly devastating blow, hell and high water. At this moment my caring thoughts are with you my friends.
“It Surprises Me” was written after years riding the emotional waves that Florida cyclones engender. Since human beings all sit in the same fragile life boat we have natural empathy for those under the gun of extreme weather events. The deeper side is a calling, asking us to live fearlessly in an unpredictable world where our awareness is the only constant even as trying days appear then disappear before our eyes. So as you recover, have no doubt, benevolent forces will come to your aid and in the turning “it may surprise you, just how strong you can be”.
Peace and God speed ~
